Airline cabin and checked baggage allowance: what to pack where

Open the current ticket through the airline or seller address you already know. Create one row each for the personal item, cabin bag and checked bag. Keep a stated allowance distinct from what a bag currently measures. Weigh and measure the packed bag using the airline's method, including wheels, handles and pockets when required. If a connection uses another operator, ask whether bags are accepted through or must be collected and presented again; never assume one tag settles customs, transfer or recheck duties. List batteries and powered devices, liquids and aerosols, medicines, mobility or medical equipment, tools, sporting equipment, valuables, identity documents and anything fragile or unusual. Check the airline and the competent security, dangerous-goods, customs and destination authority that actually governs each item. IATA explains common battery risks, but its passenger guidance is not permission from a specific airline or screening authority. Do not put spare batteries or power banks in checked baggage when the responsible rules require cabin carriage, and do not invent a watt-hour limit from memory. Keep essential medicines and documents accessible only where the verified rules allow. If authorities disagree or the item is unresolved, obtain a written decision or leave it out rather than hiding, relabelling or splitting it.

Recheck the live policy shortly before departure and after an airline, aircraft, route or ticket change. Save the itinerary, applicable allowance, purchased-bag receipt and any written special-item approval offline while protecting names and references. Put the correct terminal, check-in opening, bag-drop deadline and one verified support route in the same private packet. Leave enough time for measurement, payment or repacking without assuming staff will waive a limit. Gate checking can change custody and access to medicines, batteries, documents or onward essentials, so prepare a compliant small-item fallback without predicting that it will be offered. Once security has stopped an item, follow the airport-security-item process; after arrival, delayed, missing or damaged checked baggage belongs to the separate baggage-report process.

After the ticket, allowance, item placement and offline airport handoff are settled, list only ordinary online tasks remaining at the destination: opening an authenticated booking, receiving routine updates, normal messages or refreshing a map. Subtract working home roaming, trusted Wi-Fi and downloaded files.
