The short answer
Plan for the exact prosthetic limb you use, not for a generic disability label. Ask the responsible prosthetist or clinical team what fit, skin, volume, activity and warning-sign plan applies to you; record components, tools, consumables and permitted spares; and obtain screening and assistance decisions for every operating carrier and checkpoint. Verify heat, water, terrain, charging and repair conditions at the destination, then keep a safe way to move or stop if the prosthesis cannot be worn or fails. A data-only eSIM cannot assess fit, approve tools or batteries, provide assistance, repair a limb, make emergency calls or guarantee reception. Compare one only for a measured non-critical phone-data remainder after the journey works offline.
Set the individual fit and skin plan before departure
Give the responsible prosthetist, rehabilitation team or clinician the real itinerary: dates, sitting and walking time, stairs, transfers, altitude, heat, humidity, water, sand and planned activity. Ask what socket fit, liner, sock, skin inspection, cleaning, charging, rest and review plan applies to this person and exact device. Do not alter alignment, padding, suspension, components or skin treatment from a blog. Agree which pain, wound, swelling, colour change, loss of control or device change means stop using it and seek competent care. A recent amputation, new prosthesis or unresolved skin problem needs individual assessment; a ticket or connection is not medical clearance.
Record the exact prosthesis and protect permitted spares
Privately record manufacturer, model, serial where useful, socket, joint, foot or hand, covers, charger, battery type, tools, liners, socks, sleeves and consumables. Ask the manufacturer or prosthetist which items may be fitted by the user and which require a qualified technician. Keep essential approved items in the custody allowed by the carrier and checkpoint; never conceal tools, liquids, adhesives or batteries. Photograph condition and setup privately without publishing serials or health details. Confirm baggage size, sharp-tool, liquid and battery rules for every segment. A letter may explain equipment but does not waive screening, dangerous-goods rules or another country's import requirements.
Confirm each checkpoint and operating carrier
Contact every operating airline, railway, coach, ferry and assistance provider, not only the booking seller. State the movement you can perform safely, whether you can stand or walk, the prosthesis and any secondary mobility aid, and the help needed at check-in, screening, boarding, transfers and arrival. The Amputee Coalition explains a US TSA process in which a prosthesis can remain worn while additional screening occurs and private screening can be requested; that is US-scoped, not a worldwide promise. Ask the actual checkpoint authority what applies. Your Europe describes assistance rights on covered EU transport, but it does not guarantee a requested method, personal care, screening outcome or identical service everywhere.
Test destination conditions and an offline failure fallback
Verify the actual room entrance, bathroom, storage, charging point, workshop access, walking surfaces, weather and every transfer rather than trusting an accessibility icon. Ask the responsible prosthetist or manufacturer about water, dust, sand, heat, cold and charging limits for the exact components. Identify a legitimate local prosthetic service, but never assume it stocks a compatible part or can alter the device without records and authorization. Carry an individually suitable secondary mobility option only if it has been assessed and accepted for transport. Save addresses, assistance references and the stop-use plan offline. If the limb is damaged or missing after carrier custody, use the separate damaged-mobility-aid process and avoid unsafe improvised repair.
Measure only ordinary phone data after safe movement works offline
Make essential movement, screening instructions, accommodation access, clinical warnings and urgent contact possible without consumer mobile data. Then list modest tasks such as opening an authenticated carrier update, mapping an already accepted accessible route, messaging accommodation or contacting a known workshop for a non-urgent appointment. Subtract downloaded documents, tested roaming and reliable Wi-Fi. Compare CheapESIM only when every phone-use country is listed, activation and validity fit, allowance is sufficient, and the exact phone is unlocked and compatible. Stop if you need calls, SMS, emergency access, guaranteed indoor or route reception, continuous device monitoring, clinical advice, assistance dispatch or repair. The phone plan covers no prosthetic component and cannot make a route accessible.
